For whatever the reason, I feel like reflecting to the lyrics of the classic Disney tune of "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas. This is really strange because I've never actually seen the movie in its entirety.
However, the chorus of this song has been stuck in my head all day. (The chorus, along with the rest of the lyrics can be found here: http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/classicdisney/colorsofthewind.htm)
So, here goes. Feel free to sing along:
Calle He Has For You
I think I've been stubborn in my heart
And yet I've been so many places.
I guess it may still be so
Because I can see
my heart softening within me.
How can there be so much that I don't know?
I don't know …
I've been taught to sow whatever land I land on.
The Earth has been sown again and again by AIM.
I know every person is made in His image,
Has a life, has a Spirit, has a name.
I've always come from and lived with people who
Are people who look and think just like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a dominicano,
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew.
Have you ever rode a moto past the San Juan mountains
Or been asked if "heart" means the same as "horse"?
Can you sing with all the voices in the campo?
Can you walk the calle He has laid out for you?
Can you walk the calle He has laid out for you?
Come walk the dry, dusty roads of the campo
Come taste the sun ripened fruit of the mercado
Come receive all the blessings all around you
And for once, never question from Whom they're from.
The rainstorm and the river feed my brothers
The mujeres and the ninas are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
To a Great God whose love never ends.
How high will your Spirit grow?
If you don't go, then you'll never know
And you'll never ride a moto to past the San Juan mountains. 🙂
For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of our hermanos
We need to walk the calle He has laid out for us.
You can sow the Earth and still
You'll need to reap the Earth and till,
Walking the calle He has laid out for you.
Finally got to reading this, and love it!
Beautiful rendition, I’m glad you’re getting to reflect on ethnic and cultural differences in an artful manner. May the Great Artist above and around us enlighten you to more colors and tones of God’s palette of glory.
